Update On Elias/Ezekiel’s WWE Status

In what could have been pure Wrestle Crap but ended up entertaining, Elias returned to WWE after a nine-month absence as his brother Ezekiel. Yet, after only four months, the character was taken off television, and now PWInsider.com has reported that WWE updated their internal roster last week, removing Ezekiel and replacing him with Elias. Seemingly indicating that Ezekiel is no more, and WWE’s creative team is looking to integrate Elias back, perhaps as soon as his beard has fully grown. Maybe, he’ll even have his surname Samson back, with Vince McMahon no longer about to push mononym names.

Ezekiel is no longer listed internally on the WWE’s roster, PWInsider.com has confirmed. The character was replaced last week with his original persona, Ezekiel’s “older brother” Elias.

The former Elias character did appear alongside Ezekiel during his run in edited backstage footage. However, the last match time the character wrestled was in July 2021, when he lost a Symphony of Destruction match to Jaxson Ryker. Then the following month, vignettes would air where Elias torched his guitar, seemingly ending his musician character. And it was during that time that former WWE writer Vince Russo divulged that he had been in contact with Elias and revealed that he wasn’t very popular with the creative team due to constantly suggesting ideas. Therefore it was speculated that Ezekiel could even be a form of punishment; nevertheless, if it was, Elias didn’t let it get to him and more than delivered in the role.
