Rick Boogs was released by WWE on September 21st, having not wrestled since the Slim Jim Battle Royal at SummerSlam. However, not letting this get him down, the now former WWE star has taken to his YouTube channel to share one of his regular workout videos. Yet, at the start, he would somewhat cryptically claim that his WWE release was part of a “backstage political power play.”
And now, in the comments section of the video, while replying to fans, he has discussed this further, remarking that when Vince McMahon was forced into retirement, his WWE career was effectively killed and that one person in power had a “weird grudge” against him.
“I can say with 100% certainty, the removal of Vince killed my career.”
“A lot of people tell me I was their favorite, mainly their kids favorite, which is the way it should be considering it’s a PG show. Also, aside from my time with Vince, the character wasn’t even given a chance…the audience has zero idea about all the bullshit I’ve had to put up with for the years. I have plenty to say once the times right.”
Rick Boogs“Pretty much everyone in the corporate side of the company agreed which is why I was always the third party guy doing commercials for old spice, snickers, Mikes hard lemonade, and Toyota…however, one person clearly has some weird grudge against me.”
Rick BoogsWith his over-the-top enthusiasm and muscular physique, it’s easy to understand why Boogs, real name Eric Bugenhagen, would be a favorite of Vince McMahon. And it is evident that his push noticeably decreased when Triple H took over creative. Nevertheless, he suffered a torn quadriceps/patellar tendon while wresting at WrestleMania 38, which sidelined him for nine months, and this likely did more damage to his career than anything else.
