John Cena Reveals What It Would Take For Him To Wrestle Again

Despite the fan frustration, John Cena has firmly closed the door on any chance of an in-ring comeback. In a recent interview with UsMagazine.com, the 17-time world champion admitted that while “never” is a strong word, a return to the ring would amount to “financial suicide” for any promoter. This suggests the required financial figure would be so large that it would be impossible to recoup costs, let alone make a profit.

I hate speaking in absolutes … ‘Never’ is a strong word. It would be financial suicide for someone to court me in a position where I would have another match, and I truly mean that. So if you’re in the business of torching currency, that’s the only way to get me back in the ring.– John Cena

Cena officially retired as a pro wrestler in December 2025 following an emotional farewell tour that included a shocking heel turn, a WrestleMania victory over Cody Rhodes, and a final match against Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event. The bout ended with Cena tapping out in what many fans considered an anticlimactic finish, which went against his legendary “Never Give Up” persona. Therefore, Triple H was heavily booed during the post-match tribute as many felt Cena should have gone out fighting.
