Jim Ross had previously said he might be done with Dark Side of the Ring because of his involvement in the Plane Ride to Hell episode, which resulted in Ric Flair being temporarily canceled. However, he has now revealed on his podcast that he is being interviewed for the upcoming season and that one of the subjects will be the Junkyard Dog. And with Ross and JYD having known one another since they were colleagues in Mid-South and WCW, the current AEW commentator ought to be able to offer a lot of insight into both his professional life and personal life.
I’m going to do something with Evan and those Dark Side guys on the Dog, talking about JYD. Of all the people living through that entire era, I might have a unique outlook on it. We’re going to record that in the next few days, talk about Dog’s career, what he meant to that company, that territory, and that part of the country. I’m glad to be doing that with those guys, tell the story about the Junkyard Dog.
Jim RossJYD is a fascinating subject for the show because of his tragic life story, in which the beloved babyface battled alcohol and drug addiction and lost much of his physical prowess by his mid-30s due to neglecting his health. Tragically, he passed away in a car accident in 1998 at the age of 45, just three years after retiring. And while heartbreaking, thankfully, his career would eventually be acknowledged posthumously when WWE inducted him into their Hall of Fame in 2004, with his daughter LaToya Ritter serving as his representative.
