The entire mindset is so far away from what professional wrestling was and is SUPPOSED TO BE. I can’t imagine what Sokia’s ancestors, Afa and Sika, the “Wild Samoans,” would have done if the babyfaces NO-SOLD them. I can’t even imagine what they would have done to those poor slobs as a SHOOT in the ring. For REAL, the unfortunate bastards would have NEVER GOTTEN UP.
I guess what I’m saying is . . . I’m tired of the “Great Worker” Bullshit because that’s what it is—BULLSHIT. You can’t be a “Great Worker” if you’re not selling SHIT. If you’re not selling—-it’s PHONEY. You’re PHONEY. In order to be labeled a “Great Worker,” part of that work is THE SELL!!! If you’re not selling, then you’re NOT WORKING.
My God, bro, for the few times I was in a wrestling ring as an ABSOLUTE NOVICE, even I knew that I HAD TO SELL. If not, I was going to make whoever I was in the ring with LOOK LIKE SHIT. My only concern when working in a ring with a Ric Flair, a Booker T, or even a Scott Steiner was to NOT MAKE THEM LOOK BAD!!! So I SOLD. I SOLD MY ASS OFF. I wanted everyone in that audience to believe that the “Nature Boy” was taking this A-HOLE New Yawker to school. And, the MORE I SOLD . . ., the BETTER FLAIR LOOKED.
But Kevin Owens is going to no-sell Solo Sokia, crashing him through two rows of four chairs? REALLY? What does that make Sokia look like? To me, it means that he really can’t be THAT TOUGH. So, even if Owens beats him . . . he’s beating somebody that REALLY ISN’T THAT TOUGH.
This is elementary wrestling shit. I learned all this DAY ONE at Johnny Rodz’s School some almost 25 years ago. But these “Pros” of 10-15-20 years aren’t understanding that? Then to me . . . they’re not pros. They’re not pros because selling is part of the game they’re playing. Come on, man, are you going to have a bat put in your hands and sent up to the plate in the Major Leagues if you DON’T KNOW HOW TO HIT?!!! ARE YOU?!!!
If you’re not going to sell—don’t sell—but don’t tell me you’re a “Great Worker” either because, quite frankly—you’re not. Selling was a part of Professional Wrestling LONG BEFORE any of these “Spot Monkeys” were born. And, with all the heat, I’m going to get over this—-do you think I care? Somebody has to say it, so it might as well be the guy who’s black-balled from Pro Wrestling simply because he’s made a living out of telling the F’ING TRUTH!!!
You think I’m exaggerating, being “Dramatic”? Fine. Then imagine a boxing match, a UFC Bout, a fight in a bar where people are getting punched, kicked, bitten, and NOBODY IS GETTING HURT. Imagine that? Because that’s why it happens every Monday Night. And that is why the casuals have left in DROVES. At the end of the day, all they want to do is STILL BELIEVE. But, if you’re going to tell them, each and every week, that all the “spots” you do are really fake and they actually don’t hurt anybody—then you’re telling them to NO LONGER BELIEVE—and—THEY DON’T.
Yeah, man, it’s a “different time.” Yeah, man, wrestling has “evolved”. Yeah, man, I’m as “irrelevant” as they come. But the harsh reality is—YOU CHANGED THE GAME. And, to add insult to injury, you changed the game for a very niche audience, the loud minority, who don’t give one shit about the health and the welfare of the wrestlers who they are pushing to raise the bar to make a “worked” business UNSAFE. THOSE PEOPLE are who you are catering to.
Man, reading this article, you would think it’s FICTION. You would definitely want it to be, but it’s not. It’s Professional Wrestling in 2023, and guess what . . . you can have it.
