As we reported previously, Sting is no longer under contract with WWE, and that news got many wrestling fans believing that Sting could soon be appearing in AEW.
Since then, there had been no further news. But following Cody Rhodes using one of Sting’s signature moves, the Stinger Splash at AEW’s Double or Nothing during his match with Lane Archer there has been fresh speculation.
Now in an interview with SI.com, Cody has admitted there has been no contact with Sting as of yet, but we should consider him paying tribute to Sting as his way of reaching out.
I don’t know what his schedule is like or where he’s at in this world, but nothing would please me more than to stand in a ring across from Sting. There has been no contact, but that’s my way of reaching out.Cody Rhodes
AEW has always been open to working with legends with DDP, Jake Roberts, and Arn Anderson all being featured prominently, so given Cody’s comments, it certainly seems the door is open for Sting to work with the promotion if he is interested.
