Chris Masters debuted for WWE in 2005, with the company having high hopes for him and pushed his version of the Full Nelson as unbreakable. This led to the move being protected and the birth of The Master Lock Challenge. The challenge lasted for two years before being officially beaten by then ECW Champion Bobby Lashley, who WWE wanted to make one of the faces of the company. Now in an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Masters has discussed how he feels that Lashley has taken on the finishing move as his own.
The exact origin of the Full Nelson is unknown ith some historians suggesting the set of Nelson holds came from Bobby Nelson, who wrestled between 1936 and 1959. Most fans, though, will likely best know it as being used by Ken Patera, Billy Jack Haynes, Superstar Billy Graham, and The Warlord before Masters.
While from a storyline perspective it would make sense for a Master Lock vs. Hurt Lock angle, it’s unlikely ever to happen considering Lashley is one of WWE’s top talents, while Masters has been out of the limelight since his 2011 release, except for brief runs in Impact Wrestling in 2015, and 2017. Right now, he wrestles for Billy Corgan’s NWA and currently holds their NWA National Championship, but it seems he is a long way from a WWE return.
