In a candid interview on The Nikki & Brie Show, Paige revealed that although she enjoyed her two-year stint with AEW and holds immense respect for Tony Khan, her heart was never fully committed to the promotion. The former WWE superstar admitted fans could sense it in her in-ring performances, as she has always identified as a “WWE girl.” Having joined WWE at 18 and made significant sacrifices for the company, Paige emphasized that returning feels like coming home.
“Well, I did go to AEW and you guys, I did have a great time there, but my heart wasn’t in it, and I feel like you could see that in my performance when I was in the ring and my character. I’m a WWE girl, man. I love WWE. So yeah, I went there for a couple of years and, you know, we went our separate ways and it ended really, really great. I have nothing but love when it comes to AEW and Tony and stuff like that.” – Paige
During her AEW run as Saraya, Paige achieved major success, including a Women’s World Championship reign. She formed key alliances and delivered memorable matches that highlighted her veteran skills and in-ring experience. However, some fans never fully embraced her character or performances in the promotion. Therefore, while unexpected to many, it wasn’t a complete surprise when both sides eventually parted ways by mutual agreement. Still, Paige has never expressed anything but love and appreciation for her time in AEW and for Tony Khan.
