An independent wrestling veteran of nearly two decades, Zoey Skye has an honesty and work ethic about her that makes it a little baffling that she hasn’t been grabbed by a larger promotion. She’s shared the ring with several notables from the NXT and AEW rosters, but admits her 5-foot, 100-pound frame has likely not done her any favors.
“Literally, 90 percent of the girls at AEW and NXT and WWE, I know them, I’ve wrestled them, I’ve been on shows with them,” Skye told Web Is Jericho via Youngstown Studio. “I’m not mad one bit. I’m so glad to see them there. There’s so many girls that are signed right now, who would’ve thought anybody would have that much of an opportunity or that much of a chance. I love seeing good people do good things.”
Skye got her start some 18 years ago and has appeared for several promotions including AEW, Ring Of Honor, MLW, AIW and Shimmer, among others, and her love of wrestling stemmed from playing sports in her youth and seeing “The Attitude Era.”
“I love what I do,” she said. “I love training. I love traveling. Getting paid to travel, even though it’s a lot of wear and tear on our bodies, I love what I do.”
Skye talked about a variety of topics including her start in the business, her debut match, an independent promotion that she thinks stands out, wrestling Mariah May in one of her first U.S. matches, the evolution of women’s wrestling, what’s held her back and much more.
