The Pretty Reckless have spent a good chuck of the last two years opening for rock icons AC/DC on their lengthy “Power Up” world tour. Singer Taylor Momsen recently spoke with Rock Antenne, and shared that when the band initially signed on for the trek, she received several warnings from music industry insiders.
“It’s kind of a funny story: so when we got the tour, I actually got quite a few phone calls from people in the industry warning me of said tough crowds,” Momsen said (transcribed by Ultimate Guitar). “Going, ‘Hey, just so you know like, congratulations, but this is going to be the hardest tour you’ve ever done. Be prepared to be booed off the stage. AC/DC’s audience is loyal and they only care about AC/DC. They do not want you on that stage, they’re just waiting for you to get off’.’ Apparently, they’re notorious for booing the opener. So, I was fully prepared for that.”
Momsen said, however, that the harsh response people in the biz predicted never came to fruition. “Having said that, not our experience at all. We’ve had a really fantastic time. And if there’s one or two people in the front that I can see that don’t seem to be into it, I make it my mission to win you over by the end. I play a little game with myself and I have not failed at that game yet. I haven’t lost yet. And we’ve been out with them for about two years, and we’re going out with them again in the States coming up. So, it’s been fantastic.”
