WWE Is Reportedly Preventing Cain Velasquez From Returning To AAA

Cain Velasquez’s long-awaited return to AAA seemingly won’t be happening following WWE’s acquisition of the promotion. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the former UFC heavyweight champion would already be competing in Mexico under the previous regime, which held him in high regard and planned to push him prominently. However, his exit from WWE, combined with the new ownership’s strategic shift, has reportedly made his involvement highly unlikely.

If WWE had not bought AAA, he would already be wrestling for AAA. They didn’t leave on the best of terms. I don’t think WWE really wants him in the sense of what their goals are. Their goals aren’t like, let’s bring in a Mexican celebrity. The AAA people, Dorian Roldan, Konnan, those people that were involved, they love Cain Velasquez. I was pretty much told that if it was Dorian’s company, then they would have definitely brought Cain in for big shows because that’s how much they think of him.– Dave Meltzer

A decorated amateur wrestler with an impressive 110-10 high school record and NCAA All-American honors, Velasquez pursued a career in pro wrestling after retiring from MMA. He debuted with AAA in 2019 before joining WWE, where he memorably faced Brock Lesnar in a disappointing match that led fans to turn on him as a performer. Then in 2022, his life and career were put on hold when he was arrested following a shooting incident tied to allegations involving his young son, with him subsequently released on parole in February 2026.
