WWE Criticized For Not Acknowledging Sting’s Retirement

Sting did what very few wrestlers get to do, and that is go out on his own terms. And following his final match at AEW’s resolution pay-per-view on Sunday night, social media has been flooded with tributes for the legendary wrestler. However, while promotions Sting has worked for, such as TNA, New Japan, and NOAH, would all acknowledge his in-ring retirement, WWE was conspicuous by their absence. Instead, the promotion opted to promote NXT, which has drawn criticism from some fans online, as the below post on X demonstrates.

While 64-year-old Sting is far more connected to WCW and even TNA than he ever will be with WWE, he did work for the company between 2014 and 2020 and was honored with a Hall Of Fame induction. Yet, considering so few wrestlers get to have an almost 40-year career, it would have been fitting if WWE had at least acknowledged his in-ring retirement, considering they own so much of his legacy via their tape library.
