AEW star Julia Hart has bravely opened up about her diagnosis with Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), a serious eating disorder. In a heartfelt TikTok video, the former cheerleader revealed that she has been having therapy to identify her triggers and gain a deeper understanding of the condition. Hart hopes that sharing her story will raise awareness and offer support to others facing the same struggles.
“Hey guys. I just wanted to come on here and bring some awareness to ARFID disorder because I got diagnosed with ARFID in November. I just wanted to know if anyone else is going through that because I see a lot of people talking about anorexia, bulimia, and binging, but I don’t see anyone talking about ARFID. And I’m like, am I the only one here? Like, who else is going through this? I feel like through therapy the past few months, I’ve really understood where my triggers come in and what has made my brain think this way.” – Julia Hart
Effective treatment for ARFID primarily revolves around specialized cognitive behavioral therapy. This approach helps patients confront food-related fears, gradually expand their diet, and rebuild a healthier relationship with food. Key techniques include systematic exposure, sensory exploration, and structured mealtimes, often with strong family involvement. A multidisciplinary team, typically made up of therapists, dietitians, and physicians, works together to address nutritional deficiencies and any co-occurring anxiety.
