Tony Schiavone Explains Why He Doesn’t Watch WWE

Tony Schiavone is one of the faces of AEW on television, and behind the camera, he holds a senior producer role, helping to bring Tony Khan’s vision to the masses. However, somewhat surprisingly, he has now revealed on his podcast that he doesn’t watch AEW’s rival WWE, saying, “I just have no interest in it because I want us to cut our own path and not try to be anything like them.

“I have no interest in watching WWE or NXT current stuff, and that’s not to say anything bad about what they’re doing. I just have no interest in it because I want us to cut our own path and not try to be anything like them.”Tony Schiavone

67-year-old Schiavone broke into the business in 1985, where he would host NWA’s World Championship Wrestling in front of a studio audience for Jim Crockett Promotions. Afterward, he joined WWE in 1989, but just one year later, he returned to WCW, which Ted Turner had taken over.

Subsequently, he worked for the company for the next 11 years as their main play-by-play announcer. However, after Vince McMahon purchased the company, he stepped away from the business to pursue a career in sports broadcasting.
