For decades, wrestling promotions have looked to work with local celebrities in order to gain extra publicity and hopefully sell extra tickets. And now, in a prime example of this, TNA has announced that former WCW commentator and current Pittsburgh sports talk show host will be attending their show at the UPMC Events Center on June 20th. However, this appearance is more special because the former Nitro announcer will return to the broadcast booth.
64-year-old Madden first got involved in wrestling via the Pro Wrestling Torch newsletter in the early 90s. From there, he was hired by WCW president Eric Bischoff to write for their magazine and run the WCW Hotline, eventually replacing Bobby Heenan behind the announce desk. Nevertheless, his time with the company would abruptly end in 2000 when he was unexpectedly fired, which at the time was speculated to be due to his real-life animosity with Diamond Dallas Page, whom he repeatedly referred to as “DDMe.”
