When Lance Anoa’i requested his release from Major League Wrestling, it was believed he was on his way to the WWE Performance Center with a spot in The Bloodline being his destiny. However, despite achieving his dream and signing with WWE, due to injury he hasn’t wrestled on either NXT or EVOLVE.
And now, almost exactly a year after joining the company, the 33-year-old has taken to X to announce that he has been released, acknowledging his 30-day non-compete clause. This was especially unexpected, as Lance is a third-generation wrestler, having been born into the Anoa’i family, and was therefore expected to get an opportunity to prove himself when healthy.
Anoa’i is best known as the son of Samu, who was one of the Headshrinkers in the 90s. Over the years, it has been known that Anoa’i had multiple WWE tryouts, but until 2024, he had always been unsuccessful in his attempts to secure a contract. Still, he did once get to compete in a high-profile match on Raw all the way back in 2019 against Shane McMahon as part of an angle involving his real-life cousin Roman Reigns.
