Son Of WCW Legend Says “WWE Is My Backup Plan”

When Bill Goldberg returned to the ring in 2016 following a 12-year absence, part of the reason was to allow his son, Gage, to see him compete live. And now, with Gage having followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming a college football player, the 19-year-old revealed during an interview with Bill Apter that “WWE is my backup plan 100%” if football doesn’t work out, indicating pro wrestling is far from his passion.

“It’s there. It’s a backup plan, for sure. Football is a priority 100%, but it’s a backup plan. Football is my main plan, WWE is my backup plan 100%.”Gage Goldberg

The path of a second-generation wrestler is not always paved with success, as for every Cody Rhodes, Bron Breakker, and Charlotte Flair, there is David Sammartino, Scott Putski, and René Duprée. However, if Goldberg’s son has inherited even a fraction of his father’s intensity and drive, he could very well make a name for himself in a business where who you know can be far more important than passion and ability.
