CM Punk Reveals The Cruel Comment That Finally Made Him Quit Twitter

During a recent interview with ESPN New York, CM Punk opened up about the moment that finally drove him away from Twitter, now known as X. After shattering his foot in AEW, he stumbled upon a post celebrating his injury. While the comment didn’t personally upset him, it triggered the powerful realization that he was willingly exposing himself to a level of cruelty he would never encounter in real life. Convinced that much of the platform’s vitriol came from bot farms and algorithmic echo chambers endlessly amplifying negativity, Punk walked away for good, choosing inner peace over constant online noise.

I don’t think a lot of them are real people anymore. I honestly think it’s bot farms, and they just attach onto whatever the hell an algorithm is. They repeat and regurgitate what other people are saying …The thing that got me to abandon Twitter was when I shattered my foot. I saw somebody say they were happy about it. It didn’t hurt my feelings. I just went, ‘Oh, this is not a comment that I would have seen if I didn’t look at Twitter, so I’m just going to stop looking at this.’” – CM Punk

Several prominent wrestlers have since followed CM Punk’s lead, abandoning X in search of relief from its relentless toxicity. Samantha Irvin deactivated her account after receiving graphic death threats amid backlash over her husband Ricochet’s controversial remark. Chelsea Green has repeatedly stepped away from or deleted the app following waves of harassment, including death threats after paying tribute to Hulk Hogan. Though most stars remain active, these high-profile exits highlight the troubling trend of performers needing to protect their mental health from the faceless cruelty that reaches far beyond the wrestling world.
