Shortly before WrestleMania 41, news leaked online that Kevin Owens’ match with Randy Orton was likely off due to the Canadian being injured. Subsequently, this would be confirmed by Owens himself during SmackDown, with it also revealed that he was set to miss a considerable amount of time due to the severity of the damage. And now, having apparently been unable to find a non-surgical solution, Fightful Select has reported that Owens underwent surgery on Friday.

Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp has learned that former WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens finally underwent surgery to repair the neck injury that sidelined him from WrestleMania 41. We’re told that the surgery was a success and took place on July 18.”Fightful Select

Once news broke that 41-year-old Owens was hurt, fans on social media began looking through his recent matches and immediately blamed his hard-hitting, unsanctioned match with Sam Zayn at Elimination Chamber in February. However, Owens has since stated in an interview that his injury happened in a regular match and therefore was not down to one mistimed bump but general wear and tear catching up with him.
