Shortly prior to All In: Texas, AEW head honcho Tony Khan took to social media to reveal that Adam Cole was vacating the TNT Championship because he needed to “take some time away” to recover. Subsequently, 36-year-old Cole cut an emotional promo on the show where he suggested that he may be able to wrestle again, with it reported afterward that he was dealing with a severe concussion.

And while there is seemingly still a chance that Cole will be able to compete in the future, Bryan Alvarez has reported that initially, the AEW star wanted to announce his in-ring retirement on the pay-per-view, but “cooler heads prevailed.

“From what I can gather, he was pretty much ready to go out on Saturday and retire, and I guess, you know, cooler heads prevailed … His future as a wrestler is very much in doubt, and it’s just going to be a matter of time when he feels he’s in the right headspace, he’s going to make a decision.”Bryan Alvarez

Sadly, this is not the first brain injury that Cole has sustained, as he unfortunately suffered a very serious concussion at Forbidden Door 2022. At the time, it wasn’t known if the former NXT Champion would ever be able to return to the ring, as at one time he needed to see a doctor three times a week. And while he would thankfully end up getting medically cleared, he was always going to be more susceptible to further concussions.
