While speaking to U2 guitarist The Edge on SiriusXM, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich expressed a mix of excitement and clear apprehension about the band’s ambitious Life Burns Faster residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas. Drawing inspiration from U2’s pioneering shows at the venue, he highlighted the rare opportunity to reinvent their live performances, while openly calling the experience “fucking intimidating.” The residency kicks off on October 1, 2026, with an initial run of dates in October and November 2026, followed by additional weekends in January, February, and March 2027.
“We’re all fortunate enough to be able to do these shows, to connect with these audiences, to play with the configuration and to sort of reinvent the staging and all of it all the time. But this is something else. This is another level. And so to be able to do that here is so exciting … Yt’s gonna be challenging. And, obviously, I think like everybody else I’ve talked to about it, it’s overwhelming and fucking intimidating. The Sphere in Las Vegas is transforming live entertainment through groundbreaking innovations.
