This past weekend at SummerSlam, Roman Reigns successfully defended his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Jey Uso in a nearly 37-minute match. However, it has since been reported by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio that Reigns suffered an injury early on in the contest but battled through. Precisely though, what the injury was is currently unclear, as it wasn’t evident from simply viewing the match.
“Roman Reigns got hurt in the match, and I haven’t watched the beginning of the match over again, but I heard it was relatively early. I don’t know the nature of the injury, I just know he worked the match hurt. He worked the match hurt, he got hurt early in the match.”
Dave MeltzerHow severe the injury remains unknown as of writing, although Reigns is still reportedly booked for SmackDown this week in a non-wrestling capacity. Nevertheless, with his part-time schedule, it is possible that if he isn’t hurt too badly, the injury won’t affect future title defenses, which were likely months away anyway.
