Former WWE Backstage Interviewer Makes UFC History

Three years ago, it became known that then-WWE backstage interviewer Charly Arnolt, who went by the name Charly Caruso at the time, was in the doghouse. Apparently, she had been late to interviews with both Sheamus and Randy Orton, and once Vince McMahon heard about this, he took her off television. Subsequently, she was either fired or her contract simply wasn’t renewed, depending on which story you want to believe.

However, the talented host wouldn’t be unemployed as she was able to continue her dual employment at ESPN before later joining Outkick. And now, having also been working as an interviewer for UFC since 2022, she has made history by being the MMA promotion’s first-ever female ring announcer after replacing Joe Martínez, who was unwell, for UFC Vegas 91.

Arnolt first became involved in pro wrestling after AEW’s Tony Khan got her tickets for a SmackDown show in 2016. There, she met WWE’s then-Senior Director of Talent Relations, Mark Carrano, and obtained a job as a ring announcer for NXT after Brandi Rhodes had requested her release. Then, having impressed management, she was fast-tracked to the main roster and would end up becoming a prominent part of WWE’s presenting team, replacing Renee Paquette, who had just departed the company.
