Thanks to his runs in ECW and WCW, Raven became a ’90s wrestling icon, with some, because WWE never pushed him as one of the promotion’s biggest mistakes. However, it’s sadly known that his health isn’t good nowadays, with it speculated that living a rockstar lifestyle on the road had caught up to him. And now, while speaking to Ariel Helwani, he has unfortunately revealed that he has been diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s disease.
61-year-old Raven broke into the business in 1988 after earning a degree in criminal justice and serving in the Marine Corps Reserves. From there, he worked under the names Scotty The Body, Scotty Flamingo, and Johnny Polo before totally reinventing himself in ECW as Raven, a character inspired by the famous Edgar Allan Poe’s poem. Subsequently, he also wrestled for WWE, WCW, TNA, and ROH under that gimmick, notably winning the United States Championship and NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship.
