Former XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck Is Suing Vince McMahon

Recruiting Oliver Luck as XFL Commissioner was quite an achievement for Vince McMahon’s XFL reboot. Luck was previously the president of NFL Europe, athletic director for West Virginia, and served as a top executive in the NCAA. His appointment made fans and the sports media not write off the league as a rerun of a bad joke from the start.

But it turns out that the day before the XFL filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Delaware, McMahon actually fired Oliver Luck. Now Luck is suing Vince McMahon personally for the rest of the money owed on his $20 million five-year contract. It’s now in the hands of the lawyers and will be fascinating how it plays out, especially with such a large amount involved.

The XFL 2.0 ended up costing McMahon hundreds of millions of dollars for what amounted to four-weeks of football, and despite the coronavirus being the official reason for the league folding, the ratings were averaging 1.4 viewers million in by the end of week 4, meaning it was unlikely the XFL would have survived with numbers like that regardless.
