MVP is currently a regular featured talent in AEW as part of the Hurt Syndicate, and although he has only wrestled once for the company, he still occasionally takes indie match bookings. Still, the fact that he is in his 50s and not headlining shows has seen some fans write him off as “washed up.“
And now, while appearing on the Marking Out podcast, the former WWE star has addressed fans who use this terminology towards him and others, saying, “There are action figures of me. You? No one knows who you are.”
51-year-old MVP, real name Alvin Burke Jr., began his wrestling journey in 2002 after spending nine and a half years incarcerated for armed robbery and kidnapping. Subsequently, he would catch WWE’s attention, and in 2005, he signed a contract and was sent to their developmental territory, Deep South Wrestling. From there, he was fast-tracked to the main roster and feuded with names like Matt Hardy, Kane, and Chris Benoit.
Still, his main event potential would be squandered after WWE gave him a five-month losing streak, and in 2010, he was released. Yet, despite this disappointment, he continued to pursue a career in professional wrestling, working for New Japan, TNA, and MLW, eventually returning to WWE thanks to a conversation with Paul Heyman, which led to his surprise participation in the 2020 Royal Rumble match.
