MLW’s Owner Comments On Booking Controversial Former WWE Star

MLW recently announced that Matt Riddle would be wrestling against Jacob Fatu at their upcoming Kings of Colosseum show. Obviously, this has the potential to be an incredible match and has excited many. Yet, on social media, there has been backlash over this, with some fans disappointed that the promotion is booking the controversial former WWE star. And now seemingly addressing this, MLW owner Court Bauer has shared a statement with WrestleZone.com, noting that he has a history of working with Riddle prior to his WWE run.

“Riddle played a big part in establishing MLW’s return to prominence when I brought the league back. He brings it with every match, against any wrestling style. Fast forward six years and our minds are blown away at the dream matches we have planned – and it starts with Riddle vs Fatu live on TrillerTV+ January 6 in Philly.”

WWE released 37-year-old Riddle back in September following an incident at JFK airport where he was apparently intoxicated. However, he had already developed a poor reputation and became a headache for the company before this due to being accused of sexual assault and twice failing their wellness policy. Still, he had been one of their most pushed talents thanks to forming an odd couple tag team with Randy Orton, so it did surprise some when WWE decided to cut ties with him.
