Matt Hardy Addresses TNA Sale Rumors Amid Cost-Cutting

TNA has recently implemented cost-cutting measures, including a workforce reduction that led to the high-profile departures of Tommy Dreamer, Sami Callihan, and several other staff members. These changes have therefore intensified industry speculation that Anthem Sports may be preparing the company for a potential sale, with WWE widely seen as the most likely buyer. Yet despite this uncertainty, Matt Hardy, one of the promotion’s biggest stars, has firmly denied the rumors on X, stressing that current efforts are centered on expanding the brand’s reach and increasing profitability rather than selling.

TNA is not being sold to WWE, there’s only discussion on how to grow TNA. That is our goal. We have grown tremendously over the last 2 years. But we must continue to grow & make the brand more profitable. It’s what the talent wants, it’s what Carlos & the office wants. Myself & Jeff are busting our asses for TNA & believe we can truly grow the product for the greater good. If that doesn’t happen & there’s no growth in 4-5 years, who the hell knows? Yeah, it could be sold. Nobody that truly supports TNA should ever want that though. I believe in the current roster. Call me crazy, but I believe in TNA.– Matt Hardy

In December 2025, TNA announced a multi-year media rights deal with AMC Networks to air its flagship show, Thursday Night iMPACT!, on AMC every Thursday from 9-11 p.m. ET starting January 15, 2026, with additional streaming on AMC+. Widely hailed as a potential game changer, the deal promised broader U.S. exposure on a major cable network, increased visibility, financial stability (reportedly around $30M), and a significant upgrade from AXS TV, positioning TNA as a stronger third player behind WWE and AEW. However, many feel the on-screen product has failed to deliver, and therefore, changes were required.
