Legendary Drummer Lays Down Challenge To Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx

Last month, legendary drummer Carmine Appice, known for his work with Vanilla Fudge, Cactus and Rod Stewart, told Ultimate Guitar that Mötley Crüe guitarist Mick Mars left the band because he “was not happy” with the rest of the group.

Appice said Mars objected to the band playing to pre-recorded tracks, and also said he traveled separately from the rest of the band.

“The truth is that everything has been weird for a while with Mötley Crüe, and Mick didn’t like that everything was on tape,” Appice said. “Mick told me that people that came to see it could tell that it was all pre-recorded and that everything was on tape.”

“Their lifestyles are different than his, and so there were a lot of disagreements,” Appice continued, “I think he was just done.”

Nikki Sixx later blasted Appice on Twitter about the claims. “Love how people talk FOR us without talking TO us,” he wrote. “This is why the media has lost credibility. Obviously by printing BS they make money off of advertising and we’re not into that clickbait game. When the truth comes out it will be FROM üs.”

Sixx went on to add: “A washed up drummer trying to speak for us? And bottom feeder media running with it to make money off of lies? Welcome to the sad new world of LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME.”

Appice responded saying: “At least this washed up drummer can play his instrument well who has pioneered heavy rock drumming and can educate others around the world on his instrument !!!”

Now, Appice has laid down a challenge to Sixx saying he wants a jam-off to “see who the better musician on their respective instrument is.”

“I want to respond to Nikki Sixx’s comments about me being a ‘washed-up drummer,'” said Appice. “I want to challenge him [Nikki Sixx] to a jam off to see who the better musician on their respective instrument is. Since your article in Ultimate Guitar started this whole brew-ha-ha, I felt we should give this statement to you and let you run with it.”

Sixx has yet to respond.
