“The Iron Claw” was a massive success, both critically and financially, winning over both wrestling fans and mainstream audiences. However, there were frequent complaints about Aaron Dean Eisenberg’s disappointing portrayal of Ric Flair, with some joking that it was like he’d never seen a Ric Flair promo.
Still, it appears the man who lived the story, Kevin Von Erich, is more forgiving than many audience members, stating during an interview on Hey! (EW) that “I don’t think you can find a man on Earth that can play Ric Flair.”
The biographical wrestling drama starring Hollywood heartthrob Zac Efron as Kevin Von Erich was produced by A24 for $15.9 million and went on to gross $45.2 million worldwide, making it a sleeper hit. Yet, despite its strong reviews, it was overlooked by the Oscars, leaving those who anticipated the movie being nominated for Best Picture and Efron for Best Actor disappointed.
