Back in 2015, it looked like “Cowboy” James Storm was going to sign with WWE after wrestling two short matches on their NXT brand, the first against Danny Burch and then Adam Rose. However, he would ultimately return to TNA, which shocked many fans at the time.
And now, during an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Storm has opened up about this time, revealing that WWE added 25 extra dates to his proposed NXT contract, and with his wife wanting to add to their family, the balance wasn’t right between how much time he’d be on the road and his pay.
48-year-old Storm, real name James Cox, broke into the business in 1997, and after gaining experience in the indies, he worked for WCW as an enhancement talent against notable names, including Rick Steiner and KroniK. His big break then came in 2002 when he was signed by TNA and paired with Chris Harris to form the tag team America’s Most Wanted. From there, he became known as a team specialist and, in 2008, formed Beer Money with Robert Roode. Still, his career highlight would come as a singles performer when he defeated Kurt Angle in 2011 to win the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.
