As soon as WWE agreed to purchase AAA, speculation commenced that Alberto Del Rio, who now wrestles as Alberto El Patrón, could return to WWE television, having rebuilt his career in Mexico. And while this would undoubtedly be contentious given past allegations made against the luchador, it’s believed he has supporters within WWE. And now, according to Hugo Savinovich, who is friends with Alberto, WWE has spoken about giving him a new gimmick, where he turns his back on Mexico.

“They’ve even talked about refreshing his gimmick, bringing him in with his usual assistant, waving the Mexican flag. But then, plot twist, he takes off the Mexican flag shirt and reveals an American flag with a new tag line, ‘Make WWE Great Again.’ He says he’s no longer from Mexico or San Luis Potosí. That’s a heavy line for a Mexican, but fans know it’s storytelling.”Hugo Savinovich

While bringing Alberto back to WWE would raise plenty of eyebrows, it isn’t like the company refuses to work with problematic people if money can be made. Still, it should be noted that Savinovich, who is best known for being part of WWE’s Spanish-language commentary team from 1994 to 2011, isn’t always the best source for news. A notable example of this came in 2020, when he claimed Karrion Kross had been a hitman before getting into pro wrestling, which resulted in him having to issue an apology to the WWE star and publicly acknowledge that he would sometimes exaggerate to generate YouTube revenue.
