House Of Black Member Disputes Claim By Wrestling Journalist

During the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, pro wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer stated that AEW had changed this past weekend’s trios steel cage match on Collision from an Elimination match to Escape Rules due to Malakai Black and Buddy Matthews not wanting to be pinned or submitted. Apparently, the rationale behind this is that as both men plan on eventually returning to WWE, they want to be kept strong. And while this reasoning did make sense, fellow House of Black member Brody King has since taken to X to dispute this, saying the format and stipulation used was always what AEW intended.

“Funny how someone’s opinion just becomes fact because they’ve been watching wrestling a long time. The format and stipulation of the cage match was always what it was going to be. It’s not our fault the wording on the graphic changed.”

Black and Matthews were let go by WWE in 2021, yet it has long been speculated that both men still hold out hopes of returning one day. This is said to be because Triple H is now controlling creative, and their significant others are currently working for the company.  Still, it’s believed both men signed long deals when they joined AEW, so therefore, they are unlikely to be free agents anytime soon unless granted an early release by Tony Khan.
