‘Freaky’ Star Kathryn Newton Reveals Whether She Is Down To Reprise Role

One of the bigger breakout films to release during the pandemic was ‘Freaky’, the Michael Kennedy penned, Christopher Landon directed supernatural slasher starring Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton that was a blood-curdling hit, despite theaters seeing an unprecedentedly low turnout. Originally premiering at Beyond Fest on October 8th, Freaky eventually hit theaters on November 13th to a $3.7 million weekend before becoming the top rented film on FandangoNow the following month. In a time when the box-office draw of films was significantly hindered by the on-going pandemic, ‘Freaky’ managed to cut a profit on its meager $6 million dollar budget.

If you have yet to check out the body-swapping slasher, ‘Freaky’ tells the story of a masked serial killer known as the Blissfield Butcher (Vince Vaughn), who obtains an ancient, ritualistic dagger that possesses the ability to swap bodies with those it harms. After using the dagger to attack high school student Millie (Kathryn Newton), the two wind up swapping bodies ala ‘Freaky Friday,’ forcing Millie to navigate an existence as a wanted killer in search of a way to get her body back.

With the upcoming release of the third Ant-Man film titled ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’, Kathryn Newton took to the red carpet for its Canada premiere, where One Take News asked the star if she would be interested in reprising the role.

I’m waiting on the script. Send me the offer. Let’s do it!Kathryn Newton

Fans and creators of ‘Freaky’ have actively been championing a crossover event with Landon’s previous hit, ‘Happy Death Day’, which sees a college student (played by Jessica Rothe) constantly reliving the day she’s murdered by a masked killer. Talks of the two joining forces have been up in the air for some time, with reports of it happening feeling more and more like a pipedream. Hopefully, with Newton openly expressing an interest amidst her turn in the MCU, fans can see more blood-spilling, body-swapping deja-vu sometime in the near future.
