Having missed so much time from the ring, it was hoped that Kota Ibushi would finally get to have an uninterrupted run in AEW this year. However, during the promotions’ latest Collision taping, the Japanese star unfortunately suffered a fractured femur during a match with Josh Alexander, causing the contest to end by countout.
And now, having undergone surgery, Ibushi has taken to Instagram to thank his employer, revealing he cried after Tony Khan sent him flowers and a message of support. Additionally, he would speculate that he could be sidelined for up to 18 months, but noted he hopes to wrestle again, saying, “Mr. Tony Khan… all I can do is try my best.”
43-year-old Ibushi rose to prominence in DDT, and he subsequently gained international fame through his runs in New Japan, where he won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship and later the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, showcasing his versatility. And while he would wrestle for WWE in 2016, given his Golden Lovers tag team connection with Kenny Omega, it always seemed likely he was destined to become All Elite once the company was launched.
