Tony Khan has addressed Bryan Danielson’s absence from the AEW commentary desk, citing the lasting physical damage from years of punishing in-ring action. “Bryan’s beat up,” Khan admitted on Fightful Overbooked, noting that the veteran is currently resting at home. While Danielson is doing well overall, the physical demands of travel and even sitting through broadcasts remain extremely difficult due to his extensive injury history. Khan expressed optimism that Danielson will return once he can travel pain-free, while praising the longtime star’s massive contributions to professional wrestling.
“Bryan’s beat up, and I’ve been giving him time to rest and recover. I would love to have Bryan out there all the time, but he’s been home with his family, and he’s doing very well. But it’s a lot for Bryan being on the road … When he’s able to travel more and be pain-free, I think it’ll be great. I also think even just sitting in the chair and moving his head around while watching the monitor and stuff is hard. It’s harder than people understand with the injuries he’s had. People don’t realize the toll that this business and this sport have taken on this man. He’s done so much for all of us, so it means the world to have him be part of this family.” – Tony Khan
Danielson has suffered multiple documented concussions throughout his lengthy career and is still dealing with severe neck degeneration from C1 to T2. The neck issues began around 2013, required surgery in 2014, and unfortunately continue to plague him. He has also endured a broken forearm, a torn labrum, herniated discs, and orbital fractures. Though he could likely still deliver high-quality matches, Danielson is now focusing on his family while managing chronic pain and hoping to avoid further surgery.
