Fandango Thought He Was Vince McMahon’s “Little Pet” & Reveals Concussion Cost Him IC Title Reign

When Curtis Hussey was repacked as ballroom dancer Fandango in 2013, he initially received a big push by defeating Chris Jericho at WrestleMania. However, he wouldn’t reach those heights again and slowly slide down the card. Now in an interview with Chris Van Vliet, he has revealed at the time, he considered himself Vince McMahon’s little pet and was going to win the Intercontinental Championship. But, unfortunately, he’d suffer a concussion working with The Great Khali, and the company put the title on Curtis Axel instead.

They were going to put the IC Title on me, and I got concussed working with Great Khali. I didn’t tell them I was concussed. It was like a week or two before.

Fandango

I grew up in the wrestling business, if someone is going to put the IC Title you on you, you don’t take yourself out of the game. I didn’t want to stooge myself off. It was a tough spot. They took me off TV for a couple of weeks. I think Curtis Axel won the title. It derailed me. I was partying a lot at that time too. I kind of let up. I was in developmental for so long, and in my mind, I got to the finish line, and I had made it. You don’t just make it. You have to keep grinding after you get there even harder. I take full accountability for that. I kind of got there; I thought I was in, I was Vince’s little pet, and I let up.

Fandango

Fandango never regained the momentum he once had and wouldn’t see any further success until forming Breezango and Tyler Breeze. The duo would win the NXT Tag Team Championships in 2020, which would be Fandango’s only championship victory in WWE. Then in June 2021, his 15 years run with the company would come to an end when he was released. He has since returned to the independent scene and now competes under the name Dirty Dango and most recently wrestled for Billy Corgan’s NWA.
