Eric Young Requires Surgery After Suffering Injury During James Storm’s 1000th Match For Impact

Eric Young returned to Impact Wrestling last year as a surprise participant in a five-way elimination match for the vacant Impact World Championship at Slammiversary. He wasn’t victorious but worked a program with the winner Eddie Edwards and won the title at an Impact Wrestling on AXS television taping before losing it to current champion is Rich Swann. Now he is the leader of a new stable called Violent by Design consisting ofJoe Doring, Cody Deaner, and Rhino. However, his status as a television character is now unknown, as he has revealed in an interview, he tore his ACL at the last set of tapings and needs surgery.

At the last tapings, I tore my ACL. It’s the first time I’ve ever been injured. I missed my first wrestling show this Friday that I was booked on in 24 years of doing it. So, it’s frustrating, man. I’ve never been injured. I’ve been hurt lots, but I’ve never been injured. I have to have surgery in like a week and a half. And it’s going to be a long, long road. So, we’ll see, man. It’s going to get real interesting for me.

My ACL is completely torn, which I didn’t know, that happened on Monday during the match with Storm. I finished it like nothing happened. I wrestled a hardcore war eight-man tag the following day, then I wrestled Eddie Edwards on Tuesday in a singles match. It was like 20 minutes on one leg. And I would put that match against anything that airs anytime, for any wrestling company, anywhere in the world, and I did it on one leg. And I’m very proud of it. Eric Young

The match against James Storm is set to air on Tuesday night and was promoted on last week’s episode as being Storm’s 1000th match for the promotion. It seemed an appropriate contest for such a significant match with both men coming to prominence in TNA. Sadly, Young will now be out of the ring for between 6 and 9 months, which at 41 is a long time to miss.

This is especially bad timing for Young as he was attempting to rebuild his career, having had a disappointing run with WWE, which saw him have a 2-31 record after being drafted to Raw in April 2019. Exactly one year after his move to Raw, and having lost his credibility, WWE would release him as part of their mass budgetary cuts. Hopefully, Young can make a speedy and complete recovery because Impact is a better product for having him.
