Gary Wolfe is best known to wrestling fans for his time in ECW as Pitbull #1 and recently was a guest on the Wrestling Inc Daily podcast sharing an outlandish conspiracy theory. Being suspicious about all the recent WWE releases, Wolfe believes Vince McMahon owns AEW and is seemingly doing it to share talent across the promotions. Wolfe would specifically mention Paul Wight, who says in a favorite of McMahon, and he wouldn’t just let him join a rival.
I watch WWE here and there. I’m very confused about how they’re releasing so many people, I don’t understand that. I’ll give you an example. I think Vince McMahon may own AEW. That’s just my opinion. Why is his guys rolling, and they’re going right there. I mean, I know Paul, I knew Paul before he was a wrestler. I know Vince loves him, and Mark Henry’s another guy. What’s going on? He’s getting rid of all the big guys, don’t make any sense. I’m starting to think that there’s a relationship between Vince McMahon and Tony Khan and AEW.
Obviously, neither Vince McMahon nor anyone associated with WWE owns AEW, and it seems outrageous to even claim. However, in Wolfe’s defense, he was part of ECW, and it was later discovered McMahon had secretly been involved in financing the promotion. This would be exposed when it was discovered WWE was owned almost $600,000 in bankruptcy documents. Hence it’s understandable why he would be suspicious regardless of it not thought through. Furthermore, Wolfe isn’t the first wrestling personality to speculate about the possibility of a WWE and AEW partnership. Back in 2019, Vince Russo would frequently discuss the likelihood of this on his podcast and would tweet these claims.
