56-year-old Dustin Rhodes recently won his first singles title in AEW and wasn’t looking out of place in the ring with men half his age. However, it now appears he is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, having announced on X that he is getting both of his knees replaced on August 21. Seemingly, this is due to having wrestled at the highest level for most of his 36-year-old career, although the second-generation star has declared “this is not the end,” indicating he plans on wrestling again.
Rhodes broke into the business in 1988, and thanks to being the son of the legendary Dusty Rhodes, he got to work for WCW, WWE, and All Japan during his rookie years. Still, he soon proved he was worthy of his opportunities and ultimately cemented his own legacy in the business as the Goldust character. And while some fans have stated they’d like Rhodes to finish his career using this gimmick, this seems highly unlikely, as he signed a six-year contract with AEW last year to be a performer, coach, and brand ambassador.
