Dolly Parton is a country music legend and has sold more than 100 million records worldwide. She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999, and through songs like “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and numerous movies, her stamp on pop culture is undeniable. Recently, Parton was nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and the singing and songwriting legend said she “was absolutely floored” when she learned she was up for the honor.

Parton also revealed that if inducted she would make a rock album. “I’ve never thought of myself as being rock ‘n’ roll in any sense of the word — but I guess they judge it on the music and the influence certain songs have had, and I guess I’ve had songs with other people in that realm. But I don’t know how they judge that. I’m not expecting that I’ll get in. But if I do, I’ll immediately, next year, have to put out a great rock and roll album — which I’ve wanted to do for years, like a Linda Ronstadt or Heart kind of thing. So this may have been just a God-wink for me to go ahead and do that. It’s just nice to be nominated.”

Parton has previously covered rock songs like Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven,” and Bon Jovi’s “Lay Your Hands On Me.” She has also covered “Help” by The Beatles, “The House of the Rising Sun” by The Animals and “Time For Me To Fly” by REO Speedwagon, among others.

Though she can’t read sheet music, Parton can play numerous instruments. “I play some of everything. I ain’t that good at none of it, but I try to sell it. I really try to lay into it,” she told Vogue in 2016. Recently The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame revealed the nominees for its 2022 induction. The final list of inductees will be revealed in May. This year’s list includes Duran Duran, Eminem, Pat Benetar, Beck, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon, Dionne Warwick, Eurythmics, A Tribe Called Quest, Kate Bush, Judas Priest, Fela Kuti, MC5, New York Dolls and Rage Against the Machine.
