Evan Husney, co-creator of Dark Side of the Ring, has explained during an interview with The Knockturnal why the acclaimed series has never featured an episode on Andrew Martin, best known for his time in WWE as Test. Despite the team’s desire to tell his story, they have been unable to locate surviving family members or close personal friends who could provide intimate firsthand details. This commitment to authenticity and ethical storytelling remains the reason the project has not moved forward.
“Test is similar to. That’s a story I’d love to tell, but for whatever reason, the times that we’ve attempted, it felt like we couldn’t find anybody. We couldn’t find any family members, or from my recollection, we couldn’t locate anybody who was close to his family, a family friend or something. Obviously, there are plenty of people in the wrestling business to talk to, but beyond that, to get more of the story that hasn’t been out there, we’ve been unsuccessful in locating anybody to tell that … Trust me, we’ve thought of every idea you can do for the show at this point.” – Evan Husney
Test stood out as a powerhouse wrestler known for his towering 6’7” frame and commanding presence in the ring. Born in Whitby, Ontario, he thrived in multiple high school sports before entering the business through Bret Hart and debuting in WWE in 1998. From there, he achieved success in tag teams with Booker T while capturing the Intercontinental, European, and Hardcore Championships. However, Martin tragically died at the age of just 33 in Tampa from an accidental oxycodone overdose, later linked to severe CTE from years of wrestling trauma.
