Concertgoers dressing up in costumes for shows is nothing particularly new especially when it comes to eclectic music festivals. Dressing up in a banana costume and heading to a hardcore show, however, is probably not going to end well.
One fan at a Toronto hardcore show headlined by Terror found that out during the set of one of the openers. Baltimore hardcore outfit End It were on stage when said banana man caught the attention of singer Akil Godsey. “Banana guy, come to the front,” he said. “F*ck are you doing? No no no no no. You don’t get rewarded for doing that sh*t. He wanted the attention, and now he has it.” The band’s bassist added: “And now, everyone here has to kill you.”
Godsey said he’d give the band’s setlist to anyone who would “strip the banana.” Within seconds of the next song, the costume was shredded. The Banana guy took to his Instagram after writing the show was “exactly the opposite of what Hardcore is supposed to be… I was an unwilling participant, attacked and clothing removed at the direction of a band I paid to see… What would you do?”
