Cody Could Be About To Get His Legendary Surname Back

When Cody left WWE, he lost the famous surname that his father first used in 1968. WWE would let it expire in April, and Cody immediately filed the trademark application. However, WWE would file a late renewal on May 15th for the trademark, citing that worldwide events had delayed them. Many fans frowned on WWE holding on to a name they had no plans to use, but technically they were within their legal rights to do this as they did create the Cody Rhodes character.

Today though, there was a big twist in the story as WWE has canceled their trademark on “Cody Rhodes.” This news comes not long after Cody abandoned his trademark applications on “The Match Beyond” and “Slamboree,” freeing them up for WWE to reclaim. While the two things could be unrelated, and this is just speculation, it is possible a deal may have been agreed between Cody and WWE.

With WWE no longer staking claim to the name “Cody Rhodes,” the son of the late great Dusty Rhodes can update his trademark application, which was initially rejected, and take ownership.
