Who is the best wrestler in the world has been the subject of debate with wrestling fans over the years. In the 80s, fans would argue between Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat, in the 90’s it was either Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels, and in the 2000s, it was between Chris Benoit or Eddie Guerrero. Nowadays, the names most commonly suggested are AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton, or Kenny Omega.
Now Chris Jericho, a wrestler with his own claims for being the best and has shared a ring with all the names mentioned above, has taken to Twitter to say who he believes is the current best, naming AEW rival Kenny Omega. He’d also note that the AEW Championship is the most protected title in the industry, which is hard to argue against, considering only three men have ever had the honor of holding it.
Jericho and Omega have competed against each other seven times across three promotions, with two of them being singles matches. Perhaps their most famous contest was at New Japan’s Wrestle Kingdom 12 event for Omega’s IWGP United States Championship. Omega would be victorious in the no disqualification match, but it was about the performance both men put on for most fans. Wrestling historian and analyst Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter would go on to rate it five stars.
