The Pinnacle and Chris Jericho’s Inner Circle battled it out in AEW’s WarGames inspired Blood & Guts match on the May 5, 2021, episode of Dynamite. A victory could only be achieved via submission or surrender, and with Jericho on the top of the cage and unable to defend himself, Sammy Guevara surrendered to save Jericho from being thrown off the structure by MJF. Although despite being victorious, The Pinnacle’s leader would still launch Jericho off the cage.
Jericho actually landed on a crash pad, cardboard boxes, and a covering designed to look like the stage to give the impression of a severe bump while protecting Jericho. However, the stunt didn’t go precisely to plan, and Jericho suffered a dislocated left elbow. While Jericho’s appearance on this week’s Dynamite featured him with his arm in a brace, it appeared he was just selling the bump, but clearly, that wasn’t the case.
The belief is Jericho needs four-six weeks to fully recover. Still, he won’t be able to stay out of the ring for that long as he is scheduled to wrestle at AEW’s next pay-per-view Double or Nothing on May 30, 2021. While the match has not yet been made official, it is expected to be confirmed imminently after MJF challenged The Inner Circle to a Stadium Stampede match at the event, with the stipulation that if the Jericho’s faction loses, they must disband.
Over his career, Jericho has been fortunate with injuries that require time away from the ring. While he has obviously suffered injuries over his thirty-year career, the only severe one came during his days wrestling for Jim Cornette’s Smokey Mountain Wrestling. Jericho, along with Lance Storm, were preparing to face Tom Prichard and Jimmy Del Ray in a street fight, and ahead of the show, Jericho was practicing a shooting star press. He would, accidentally, land on his right arm and broke it in the process. Jericho did, though, still compete in the match, which at the time was one of the biggest to his career with his arm in plaster, and you can watch it on YouTube.
