On last night’s Raw, Bobby Lashley won the WWE Championship from The Miz in a Lumberjack match via submission. It was the pair’s second meeting of the night, as Lashley had defeated Miz via count out earlier in the evening after he ran out, thus the need for the Lumberjack stipulation. While not officially announced, it now looks set for one of the WrestleMania 37 main events to be Lashley vs. Drew McIntyre. Seemingly though, some fans would rather see Lashley defend his newly won championship against Brock Lesnar as “Brock” would trend on Twitter shortly after the title switch.
The whole purpose of Lashley winning the title is that WWE wants to give McIntyre a strong WrestleMania opponent. So it appears that barring injury, McIntyre will win his third WWE Championship in front of fans for the first time in April. That said, with WWE knowing fans want to see Lashley vs. Lesnar, perhaps they’ll book a match between the two MMA fighters when Lesnar inevitably returns.
At present, Lesnar is a free agent, and his last appearance for WWE was at WrestleMania 36, where he firmly put over McIntyre. The belief is WWE didn’t want to pay the huge money to keep him on their roster when ticket sales couldn’t offset his salary. However, as WWE has recently signed an enormous money deal to stream on Peacock, and fans are returning at WrestleMania, it’s likely the only matter of time until The Beast Incarnate is back on WWE television.
