While Pro Wrestling Illustrated is nowhere near as influential as it once was, its annual PWI 500 list still garners a great deal of attention. Still, the big talking point on social media following the release of the latest list wasn’t that Cody Rhodes retained the top spot, but the fact that Jelly Roll was placed at #38.
However, while many fans took this as fact and shared their outrage online, the claim actually originated from popular YouTuber Justin Whang, who photoshopped the rotund rapper into this spot, and did such a convincing job that people on X actually believed it.
While many fell for the joke, those who closely follow the PWI 500 knew immediately it was fake due to the requirement that a wrestler must have worked at least ten singles matches, or one singles match in at least six different months, to be eligible. Therefore, Jelly Roll was never in contention for a spot, given his one tag match. And while the rule is understandable, it means some of the biggest names in the business actually miss out on a spot, with Roman Reigns and Goldberg arguably the most notable omissions this year.
