Life is never easy for veteran wrestlers, who have endured decades of bumps that have taken their toll on aging bodies. And now the legendary Ricky Morton has revealed he is struggling even more than usual, revealing on X that he is fighting atypical pneumonia, which he says has “absolutely kicked my ass.” Thankfully, this mild form of pneumonia usually lasts only 4 to 6 weeks, though given Morton’s age, he needs to be careful, as it can be life-threatening for seniors.
69-year-old Ricky Morton debuted in 1977 with the Continental Wrestling Association and quickly became a teen idol. From there, he formed the iconic Rock ‘n’ Roll Express with Robert Gibson, performing for Mid-South and multiple NWA promotions. Subsequently, they captured multiple NWA World Tag Team Championships, memorably feuded with the Midnight Express, and went on to work for SMW, WWF, and ECW, earning induction into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017.
