WWE’s SmackDown Plans Likely Impacted Following Injury To Shotzi

WWE has already announced that Shotzi would be facing Tiffany Stratton on this week’s WWE SmackDown for a place in the women’s Elimination Chamber match later this month. However, it appears WWE will need to readjust their plans, as reports coming out of Tuesday night’s future NXT tapings indicate she suffered a serious knee injury. Apparently, this occurred during her match with Lyra Valkyria, with her landing awkwardly while attempting an apron DDT, and she subsequently had to be helped to the back by medical staff.

31-year-old Shotzi, real name Ashley Urbanski, initially tried to get into the WWE via Tough Enough but withdrew due to health issues. Yet, not being put off, she continued to chase her dream and signed with WWE in 2019. Subsequently, she built up a cult following in NXT before being called up to SmacKDown in 2021. However, initially, her main roster career would be stop-start due to a combination of injury and a lack of creativity. Yet, she has been much more prominently featured under Triple H’s direction, so the timing of this injury couldn’t be worse.
